Novice and more experienced comics can find a home on stage at El Willy’s Vive in Coon Rapids.
The open mic event is staged Sundays at 10 p.m. at Willy’s Bar and Grill, 2501 Coon Rapids Blvd. N.W.
According to event organizer Corey Adam, El Willy’s Vive is the third longest running comedy show

Adams said most of the comedy in the area is centered around Minneapolis, so the open mic in Coon Rapids provides a unique opportunity for comics in the north metro and other areas, including St. Cloud.
Comics interested in taking the stage at Willy’s can sign up at 9:30 p.m.
“Anybody who’s there gets time,” Adam said.
Those signed up perform until 11:30 p.m., when a paid headlining comic takes the stage. Open mic sign ups continue after the headliner is done with his or her set.
Adam said there are typically 20 to 30 people taking the stage each Sunday night.
For first timers, Adam offers a bit of advice.
“Everybody’s terrible when they start,” he said. “The only thing you should be shooting for is going on stage.”

“We like to make it fun for everybody,” Adam said.
“It’s not like any other venue in the Twin Cities.”
The open mic comedy at Willy’s holds a special place for Adam, who found his comedic connection with audiences in Coon Rapids.
“Willy’s was one of the first places where they got me,” he said.
Adam, a Hopkins resident, started doing comedy in 1999 and then quit for a while before taking to the stage again in 2004.
“I always knew I liked to make people laugh,” he said.
